This how-to will walk you through the basic process of setting up MailSteward, archiving messages, and searching them at a later date.
You can store your email as plain text or HTML, and switch between and file extensions depending on whether you want to have your archive searchable in Spotlight. Need to retrieve an email from your archive library? EagleFiler has a friendly user-interface that will quickly rifle through your archives until you find the message you are looking for.

The two cheaper versions of the application use an inbuilt SQLite database engine, which will cope effectively with over 50,000 messages before staring to struggle. For larger amounts of data, the more expensive MailSteward Pro product uses (and requires) a separate MySQL database, which is a freely available open source database system. In my experience, I have not seen a finer archive solution for mail on any platform, Mac or Windows. If your Mail application is starting to bog down, this application will allow you to quickly and simply resolve the situation while leaving the mail freely available to. I highly recommend it.
Delete all of the e-mail in the list, from the database.
If you click on the View raw source button a separate window will open containing the raw source of the selected e-mail with all of the original header information.

My testing saw MailSteward Pro copying messages at a rate of about eight per second, though I wasn’t including attachments or applying Tag Rules. Regardless of options and configurations, it’s probably wise to let that first big backup run overnight.
